I took my small 14 ounce paintball can to my local hardware store for a refill. The guy running them was new and didn't know what he was doing. He overfilled them badly and as soon as I got home I heard an explosion in the trunk of the car, the safety glass on one of the tanks burst and snow fell into the trunk! At about the same time, the second tank burst. These tanks only need to be 68% full to allow for thermal expansion or they will over pressurize and rupture the disk or worse, the tank itself will explode. I didn't really know they could be replaced until a friend told me about a similar experience he had some time ago. Also, due to a tiny pinhole or microscopic gap, the thin metal disk inside them can partially crack and sound like the valve itself is faulty.
