I've had ratchet straps like these for a few years and love them. My initial reservation that the embossed clips in the leather would wear themselves out was unjustified. I wear these belts every day and there is no noticeable wear on any parts. I tried two styles. With this style, you lift the buckle to release the belt and the view is with a small lever on the side of the buckle that acts as a release. I find a tightening style like this belt superior in every way. It's easy to use, fast, and holds well without accidentally coming loose. All of the ratchet straps I've seen have an identical setup where you cut them to size. This is another aspect of these new belts that I love. I have a 35" waist so I usually wear a 36" belt, but I've gotten creative with belts as I do with all clothing. So I might find a 36 inch belt tight, or with a particular belt I would prefer to use a 34 inch belt. Trimming is easy with the utility knife. Please see the photos where I illustrate the process. It works like this: Cut, place the buckle, attach the buckle to the belt and finally put it on. You need very strong thumbs to pierce the material of the belt with the notched tongue that secures the buckle to the belt. I used a hammer. Please note there is a loose thread in the picture of the hammer as I cut it in step 1. If the ribbon unravels over time, I'll edit this review accordingly. So far this is a great belt that fits my needs perfectly and has an innovative buckle look just like the belt itself.
