That Silicone on this band is soft and slightly stretches which makes it comfortable to wear and helps prevent slippage on the hand (she had an issue with other bands for this and other watches). It's also completely waterproof, which comes in handy when she works in the hospital and washes her hands frequently. The only criticism is the uncomfortable dressing. Since the loose end of the strap needs to be tucked under the other side and the silicone sticks a bit to your skin, this can be a problem. However, it also eliminates the need for a loop or loops to hold that loose end, which she usually rips and loses fairly quickly, so all in all it's probably a flush and she'd certainly consider getting another of those, if this needs to be replaced.
