I received this product through the Vine program in exchange for an unbiased evaluation. I used to worry about this, but actually this is often done in some places (hospitals). I believe this is actually the best orientation for a DC adapter that would otherwise not make full contact. (See the last picture with 2 DC adapters attached) Clamp: * Because of the clamp design, it can be attached to a flat surface very securely. The C-clamp fits into a groove in the bottom of the base and the entire bottom of the base makes contact with your table when tightened. (I really dislike OTHER designs that are attached to a small ledge that can wobble every time I try to insert or remove a connector) *Because the surface area is so large, you're less likely to get dents in the leave table * . The clamp can be slid left and right of the base when you need to dodge the table leg. *The maximum tabletop area according to the manual is 1.8 inches, but trying to roughly measure it came out to about 1.7 inches. Mine is mounted on one of the thicker (1.5″) IKEA countertops and fits perfectly. One of my use cases for this is powering many USB hard drives with a wide DC adapter) * The manufacturer claims up to 2.1 USB charging current and based on the quality of this device I believe this to be true (if it hasn't been improved Rating) Cons: The green light on the USB sockets is always on. If you have this in the bedroom, it may bother you. In general, this is a very good thing. Quality at the highest level. I think you pay a little more for this device than others, but that money goes towards quality so it's well spent.
