I used this successfully to charge two devices at the same time while on vacation which came in handy. The length of the cables also played a role. However, the USB side of the cable did not always fit properly. See the attached photo of the USB connector sticking out of the camera. In fact, I believe the camera always charged, but I often found my Samsung 6 phone not charging and I had to keep checking to make sure the USB was firmly plugged into the phone. On the downside, the newer Samsung phone fits the cable very snugly and charges with ease, so it might just be an issue with older devices.
