These bags are GREAT for travel and road trips. Basically the bag is just a lightweight canvas fabric sewn into a bag with two handles (one long, one short). We used this set of five bags for a recent family vacation that was all about driving, not flying. Instead of fumbling around with luggage or boxes, each person was given a blue bag. The bags are much roomier than our regular luggage and duffel bags - each holds about twice as much as a standard laundry hamper and will easily hold a week's supply of clothing, bike gear, camping gear, etc. for each person. I have also used them to help children move into new apartments. They are much better than boxing for two reasons. First, they are flexible and can be filled to the brim. Second, the handles make it easy to move. When lifting things five flights up, it's much easier for me to carry bags by my sides than to carry a box at chest level - the box is harder to grip and blocks my view of the stairs. Also, I can carry two bags at the same time. Last but not least, they fold up and take up almost no space when not in use, so I can leave the set to the kids for later (unlike boxes, which are difficult to store even when torn down). The handle design is great. In fact, each bag has two sets of handles. A set is short to carry the bag in hand. Another longer set can be used as a shoulder strap to carry the bag up. The material is durable enough for everyday use. I wouldn't drag it over gravel (no abrasion), but it handles heavy loads with ease (excellent durability). I expect them to last for years, but not forever. Considering how cheap they are, I plan on buying another set when they wear out - I expect two sets will last until I'm too old to keep lifting them. These bags are a large open top bag. . There is another model with six sides and zippers, but it is five times more expensive. The fabric is strong enough to hold up when packaged but when empty the pages will fall off. I never thought I would fall in love with oversized canvas bags, but these things are incredibly comfortable.
