I bought one in clear plastic so it's fairly unobtrusive apart from the weight I'm willing to live with. It's a little puzzling why the manufacturer didn't put plastic pads on the back of the legs, because there's a cut-out in the legs for that. One possible reason is that the shape of the legs is such that the pads are so thin that they don't touch the surface the laptop is resting on. A simple solution to this problem is to purchase 1/2-inch SoftTouch bumpers (available in the US from Lowe's, P/N 0055659, about $3.11 for 12). close contact with the surface. They also prevent possible slipping on smooth surfaces (as reported in other reviews). They lift the back of the laptop by about 1/16th of an inch, which may not seem like much, but it's only noticeable.
