To be honest I've used this item before. I first met him in a café in Cambridge. By wear and tear you could tell it was used hundreds of times, dropped, run through an industrial conveyor wash, etc. It was small, simple and easy to use. The current version is no different. I don't remember the old ones having a plastic handle in the filter, but maybe it just broke off after a thousand uses? This particular item is simple and dependable. It will last for many years and still look good on the other side. You don't have to hold onto the lid when pouring - which is very important to me, I have mild cerebral palsy - but if you're nervous you can apply some counter pressure to the stainless steel tab. It can fill a standard 280ml mug 3 times . Allow me to sip my morning milk tea without soiling anything but my own cup. The lid is not removable, but I'm happy with that. It can be cleaned with a regular kitchen sink brush and a mild detergent (vinegar) or abrasive (baking soda). Another cool thing I think is that the filter just fits snugly in my daughter's old non-spill cups with lids (The First Years Take & Toss 10 oz 4 count non-spill cups). This allows me to stop brewing something that I can use multiple times and protect it from spills, dust, cats, etc. The advantage of this is that after pouring out most of the leaves, the cup becomes almost an ideal vessel. Shake to fill with water and pour out the residual steam clinging to the filter. However, my favorite benefit is that they are stackable. The bottom raised ring on the jar is placed on the lid of another, allowing you to safely store a pair while taking up minimal space. Very good for those times my wife and I want to share tea time and drink what we each prefer.
