I must have received a defective unit. I cranked it up to the hottest it would get, and it was barely warmer than the room.Update: I got a replacement unit and saw similar behavior. It appears that there may be a shutoff/ safety setting that prevents it from getting warm when there's no weight on it. Which is pretty cool (no pun intended), and a good idea. Except that I don't think my dog has any interest in laying on it unless it's warmer than the rest of the floor. So I appreciate the idea behind the safety mechanism, but it seems to minimize the usefulness of the heating pad overall.That being said, customer service at this company is excellent. I would give the pad 2 stars, plus a third for great customer service.
