Bought these kits (New Pig 12 Gallon Quick Response Home Water Kit) and Quick Dam QD65-4 Water Activated Water Barrier 5' 4 packs to add to Emergency Kit. Texas has a lot of flooding in the spring. The pig came in this giant box, (6) 3" x 48" socks and (15) 15" x 19" absorbent water pads. with a nice little handle. Well the Valentimes Freeze has settled in the Dallas area with a week of -2 to 20 degree days. We did our best to survive (no electricity and no water for the second day and beyond). Although we were constantly collecting snow to melt, of course we milked jugs of boiling water from our camping stove and set it up along the water pipe in the house and throughout the house for 5 days and nights (without lights!). Pipes are frozen. On the 6th day the temperature rose to a whopping 20 degrees and we heard gurgles! Our efforts have paid off! We had water! We turned on all the taps and flushed the toilets (finally!). Pour everything that could bring the water to a boil (we had 2 more days under 30 degrees (and no water). My son heard it erupt in the garage. : Depressurizing a burst pipe 2: Give us some more so necessary water? ) and I ran out into the snow to dig and turn off the water supply. My next step was to open up the tide kits I bought just a month ago. The first (and easiest) I grabbed was the Quick Dam - ripped along the perforation line, ripped the closing zipper and BOOM, they were out doing their job, swelled to nearly 6 inches in diameter. instantly! My son, meanwhile, grabbed the hog box and struggled with the sliver that sealed the box, then had to rip apart each individually wrapped sock and then remove the wrapped "pads" by groping over a huge (now wet) box and stacks of ( now wet) plastic wrap surrounding him! came asap to help but it was just a mess. We ended up getting 6 pigs on the spot but nothing seemed to happen. We broke out the spacers but they only seemed to float in the 1/4 inch of water where we placed them. The Quick Dam area was just wet concrete and part of the pig garage was in the water with 15" x 19" slabs of light blue rubble and debris floating around. Dam! I wish I had another Quick Dam set or two! limp body!), into the snow, pushing them out as quickly and as best as possible (probably not recommended) and then pumping them back up to take up the slack left by the pigs. We then simply lifted the 6' x 4' pigs (barely 5 pounds?) and carried them outside to wring out what little they had sucked up (recommended!). 15 "sheets" were barely damp, but we wrung them out just like that. Garage, floor was just wet concrete from Quick Dams doing their damn job again. We went ahead and scattered the pieces of the pig, just like that. MUCH better after squeezing them!?!They look like they were treated with a water repellent until we squeezed it all out?!? idiots! Strange! Buy ANY Quick Dam product at this POS! the inquiry I was talking about last week - Jennifer from Pig Customer Service gave me the Pig version of the QuickDam flood barriers that I raved about! WOW! What a great answer and a wonderful surprise - unprecedented! I almost threw up inside out as I opened the box further. Jennifer, you single-handedly brought me back! oO (and deep down it was really hard to hate a company with such a damn cute name and logo). In the end I think I just used the wrong tool for the job. and I knew it the moment I saw the same black flood barriers (in the same easy-open, perforated, resealable bag with a handle!) that Jennifer sent me! Jennifer if you get this, FIND ME! (You have my address!); )
