What we learned: 1. Don't remove the paper from the cardboard square. That lights up.2. It takes a while for the box to catch fire. Just hold the flame by the edge and eventually it will ignite. Patience is key.3. Have two people hold the lantern open and have at least one other person light the lantern.4. Don't waste time with matches, use a lighter.5. Take many photos of people's faces holding the lantern, they are full of surprise and so beautifully illuminated by the light source.6. If the paper is torn a little, it will fly better in the sky than if it were intact! Even if the lantern glows rectangularly, it takes some time for the lantern to fill with hot air and take off.
