We try to use as little plastic as possible in our home as plastic emits toxic substances into food, water etc., especially when exposed to heat. We use some plastic and I hand wash it. We have a large family and I've moved away from using plastic bowls so we used ceramic bowls for the big kids and adults but the younger kids and toddlers needed something I didn't need. Don't worry about them breaking and it was dishwasher safe. I did NOT want the bowls to be really deep because I wanted bowls that are easy to use as bowls for small children but can also be used as plates with raised sides to prevent food from getting inside. fall from the edges without too high sides. I didn't even know if what I was looking for existed, but I found it and decided to give it a try. I love her! They are exactly what I needed/wanted. They are PERFECT for kids but also work very well for adults, are shatterproof, dishwasher safe and EASY for all hand sizes, from small to large, to carry on table, counter, sink etc. See photos and comparisons of these stainless steel "HYBRID" -Bowls (a wider bowl that doubles as a plate) with a standard sized ceramic bowl that can be used for cereal (unless you're my boys or my husband who wants to use cereal mixing bowls! lol). I will be buying a few more sets because I like them even more than ceramic bowls. I've had quite a few compliments from friends and family and my kids love them as much as I do, albeit for different reasons. own dishes and ability to help put them on the counter or in the dishwasher. I LOVE that they WON'T break when my kids "help"! I RECOMMEND them. I would buy them again.
