Review on ๐Ÿฑ Wysong Epigen 90 Starch-Free Dry Formula - Optimized Dog and Cat Food (WDCFE905) by Teri Cantu

Don't underestimate the amount of high-quality protein in these premium kibbles!

My raw dog gets this food in addition to fresh raw meat, so that his digestive system has already become accustomed to the very high protein content of his diet. Therefore, he had no problem when this piece was added to his meal. However, I will caution anyone trying to switch to this Epigen 90 from any other high carb commercial diet. I remember how long it took our dog's intestines to adjust to fresh raw meat. not that it was raw meat, but that the protein quality and high protein content of the meat was so high that it took my dog's digestive tract a long time to adjust. For example 2+ weeks of middle night diarrhea, gurgling noises, farts etc. Our carpet cleaner had a good workout every day/night for 2 weeks AND ONLY added 25% raw meat to his regular diet. Commercial high-quality dry food (contains only 35% carbohydrates). After going through that initial two-week adjustment period, the rest of the changes came faster. Within a month he was eating 75% fresh raw meat/offal/bones with no problem and he was enjoying himself. Today, I continue to give some (AAFCO-approved) granules (25%) as reassurance my dog is getting everything he needs. I decided to swap out the pellets he was getting with this Epigen 90 to cut the carbs down to near zero and the swap went smoothly. A number of friends/acquaintances who admire our dog's healthy looks and wellbeing have also attempted to switch their dogs to fresh raw food and all (each of them) have experienced a wall of diarrhea lasting for weeks. Some survived, but many others simply could not face the inevitable consequences of switching to such high-quality protein and gave up in less than a week. Which brings me to my point. Noticing how many negative reviews this excellent dish was getting, I was surprised at first, but when I actually read the reviews, I realized what the problem was. The high protein content (and lack of any starch) in Epigen 90 explains the bouts of diarrhea these reviewers complain about. These folks grossly underestimated the immediate effects of changing a diet on their pet's digestive system and didn't go the distance. This is a great dry food that is worth every penny if your pet can handle the high quality protein it contains. Make no mistake, the transition to this food will not be easy for many pets. But once the transition is complete, you'll begin to appreciate what a large amount of quality protein can do for your pet's health.
