So take this review with caution. I've been working as a Lightroom/Photoshop editor with a keyboard and mouse for a long time. Over the years I've watched videos of people editing with a pen instead of a mouse and I've always wanted to give it a try. The biggest problem with a system like this, the main player in the game is legitimately established and his devices cost a lot of money. I almost pulled the trigger on one of these devices until Revane started offering alternative items. This device is 2 weeks old. I'm still getting used to the idea of using the pen to edit, taking it slow and merging mouse and pen. I hope to have a perfect feather look by the end of the year. Now it is very difficult for me to compare this device because as I said I have never used any of these devices BUT have done my edits with this device. it was very nice (considering I'm still learning and getting better every week). When I found that I could use a pressure-sensitive pen to apply Lightroom's brush settings at different thicknesses without having to constantly change the Flow slider, I was blown away! The ability to touch up brides faces in photos has also gotten a lot better despite my learning curve. So I've watched a few videos of people comparing big brand tablets to much cheaper alternatives and I have to say I'm having a hard time imagining what any other device is. more than 7 times the cost of this device may be enough for me. This is NOT to say that this device is perfect and Wacom is useless (stay tuned), but I'm willing to invest in the idea that it's not 7x better ;) The only thing I know of is the Wacom Intuos Pro . What this tablet has is the ability to use your fingers on the surface of the device like you would on a computer tablet, making panning, zooming and navigating MUCH easier than using a stylus. The Wacom tablet can also connect to your computer via Bluetooth or a wired connection, while this device is wired only, which might be a more useful feature for those with limited ports on a laptop, but then it strays from the idea that the pen has no battery if you are relying on the tablet to charge. The last thing I want to mention is the size. When searching for the device I wanted, I got stuck between medium and large (this one only sells in medium), while medium seems to be a popular size. I think it's still too much for my kind of work, editing. If you plan to use such a device for actual drawing, then yes, go for the middle or larger, but for editing in LightRoom and Photoshop, the smaller footprint makes it easier to navigate the screen. YES, you can calibrate this device to only use a smaller section to support that, but why buy something with a large area to only use a small section, something with a small area and a small section that fits. Again, I think the scaling feature is only really useful if you're using a large area when drawing and need to go to a compressed area for Lightroom/Photoshop editing. All in all, it's VERY hard to complain on a device that's in the $40 range. If you're thinking about diving into the world of drawing tablets, it's safe to choose something like this to hone your basic skills before delving into the depths of these high-end devices. I also realized that this could also be ideal for parents with kids who are distance learning and need to attend drawing classes. My son tried it for a day and found the experience much better than using the touchscreen on his laptop. PS - I forgot to mention that installing this device was very easy BUT I agree that those who install drivers on their computer from a company they don't know and more importantly can't find them, can be careful. I have no idea what this Gaomon driver is doing to my computer in the background, I can only hope that everything is legal.
