Compared to Michael Harding. M Graham is clean and bright especially the vibrant colors and all her violets oranges giving you that real sunset glow that only Harding and Graham out of about 10 other top breeders I have worked with can offer. Rublev is right there and the whites can't even be touched they are so outstanding made the revival style labor intensive but will make any painting better because it is used in almost every shade. Now M Graham has a more oily consistency but not runny, I don't know how they do that because I think they don't use any filler but maybe a touch of honey, like in watercolor "don't quote me but it's logical , as their dolls come out. Due to the high amount of pigment, you will find that your tubes deflate much more slowly than other brands of the same size, with the exception of Harding of course of the same size. Of course you should be able to tell that I am not sponsored by any of these guys, I have tried to test and compare most of them because contrary to what some people say good color makes a nice picture but mediocre and bad paints at best paintings for sale in the garage. . If you don't have bread, take one tube at a time, and when you have enough, buy the next one. PLEASE DO NOT BUY COLOR FOR THE PRICE. You will leave or you will never be satisfied - trust this advice - it comes from every serious artist you've probably noticed. There are better media that we have developed thanks to our knowledge of how colors behave from our respected conservationists. You won't miss a beat with M Graham's primary and secondary colors anytime soon, but like another reviewer said, get your earth tones, some were different. If you want to save money we have to do this, most colors are really mud. Pretty and hard to find and dig up but mud nonetheless and therefore cheaper, try Richardson's raw umber, very neutral and pairs well with other colors. Rublev's best lands are all world class and cheap for the working class. Their tube sizes are huge too, so that's the real deal for what you're getting. I won't go into the science of mixing because what matters is how these slurries, ie. Pigments are mixed and mixed and processed and Rublev masters it and yet passes it on to us at an incredible price. I hope I didn't do anything wrong by not only chasing after M. Graham who I love but also trying to find a way to get a wonderful palette. No bread - make a simple and small dual primary palette or a rage palette to start with - if you have some extra cash try whatever I call luck and keep your brushes wet.
