Surprising improvement over cylindrical bulbs. We'll take the device out of service for a few days and have time to evaluate long-term performance. All LEDs are directed downwards from the fixture and are not omni-directional, so useful light is projected into the illuminated space rather than onto an inefficient reflector. Old bulbs on the left, new ones on the right. Barrel shaped contact wires are also problematic as they are often too long/short and misaligned. After a four day vacation we found that all of the lightbulbs were working properly. No flickering or dips. Another interesting thing happened. Under certain conditions, you can actually see the pattern of the LED grid on the surfaces of the device. There are slight differences in the projected light that allow you to see brighter light and slightly darker spaces between LEDs on device surfaces. This is not an obstacle for us, we just need to know.
