Review on Westbrass Universal Floating Faceplate D94HK 62 by Mario Beaklini

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Tougher job than the build quality drain that came with the house

I first bought a replacement drain fitting from a large store. It seemed cheap and the toe locking feature didn't seem to work so I took it and ordered this one. To be honest I've never installed it so it might work with more pressure than my hand. But I didn't like the sock-oriented design because it looked like a maintenance headache was waiting in the wings. The design of this Westbrass "Twist to Seal" device seems simpler to me. In the past I have purchased Westbrass fittings as an upgrade from the mainstream store offerings. I have never been disappointed and this time is no different. Tip: If your old drain flange like mine lost a crossbar (rusted after 15 years) and the standard "hammer trick" didn't work before cutting/chiselling and risking a leak, try this $15 extraction tool: Superior Tool 05255 1.5 inch tub drain extractor. I ordered mine here from Revain. It worked for me. Downward force and "rogue rod” extension on the socket wrench he eventually freed the drain, which may have provided added resistance in my initial attempts to get the old one out. I need to keep a closer eye on our drains and replace them before they go too far like the first one did.
