Great radio

Maybe I'm a bit dated but I don't like listening to radio from the internet or via cable. I like my radio on the radio. When my old Radio Shack DX-390 died after 24 years, I was very sad. I thought, "Are they still making radios?" Turns out they do. Not only that, but the desk (or desk) radio, the type that went out of fashion in the early '70s, is back. I started looking at Bose radios but they were overpriced and very ugly. Then I looked at Tivoli's desktop models. I don't think you'll find a nicer radio, but the tuners, like the rest of the controls, are mostly analogue. I may be old fashioned but I love digital tuning and volume control. Finally, I checked out what Sangean has to offer. Sangean built my trusty old Radio Shack and it was the best all in one radio I have ever owned. Of course, Sangean picked up on the popularity of tabletop radios and released some great looking radios with the modern features I needed. I ordered a Sangean WR-22 which was delivered yesterday. It's a beauty, wooden body and pitch-black panel with a large, bright (and dimmable) display. Heavy too, I bet it weighs over a dozen iPhones. Out of the box, the sound quality is excellent, even though I turned the bass down*. It amazes me how these new tabletop radios can fill a room with music. It also has RDS (Radio Data System) on FM that tells you what station you're listening to, and sometimes a song or program. It can also set the clock automatically, but only if the transmitter shows the correct time. (Do you listen to KENW?) The radio has 5 preset buttons, just like the car, so everyone can instantly tune to their favorite station. (I like National Public Radio, but my girlfriend prefers Cow Country Radio.) It also has a remote control that's perfect if you're across the room turning on an old swamp cooler or if someone starts snoring and you just not listening. have the sanity to get out of bed to turn up the volume. A word of caution, like many other things these days, this is a microprocessor controlled device and it would be advisable to use it with surge protector. Here in the High Plains, the biggest problem with radio is often reception. Either you're 50 miles from the nearest TV tower, or you live in a canyon, or your house is covered in stucco on wire mesh, making reception difficult. Don't worry, the WR-22 has powerful tuners (some have compared it to the legendary GE Super Radio) and also has AM and FM antenna connections on the rear should you need an upgrade. It also has a clock (RDS or manual) with alarm, snooze function, sleep settings, Bluetooth and a USB port for listening to MP3s from a flash drive and probably some other useful stuff. The radio costs $128 ($22 less than my DX). -390 value 1993) before taxes and shipping. Doesn't matter, whether you listen to "All That Matters" or "Unshackled!", country or techno, rock or R&B, this is the radio for you. Rest assured and tune in for my next radio review in about 25 years. * The excessive bass is due to the LOUDNESS setting being on. I turned it off and that fixed the bass problem. I've also read that placing the back of the radio too close to a wall can boost bass because the woofer is at the back. In any case, the sound quality has gone from excellent to perfect. that the LOUDNESS setting is turned on. I turned it off and that fixed the bass problem.
