Review on Dorel Living Kitchen Island Natural by Daniel Teller

For many years I wanted a small island for my kitchen. I could never find one that seemed solid enough without it built in and I just wasn't happy with the cost of it. When I saw this one and read so many positive reviews I decided to give it a try. The price was of course tempting, so I figured I wouldn't lose too much money if it wasn't perfect. While it's not perfect and certainly not handcrafted, it's surprisingly solid and well built. Arrived well packaged, no parts damaged or missing. I assembled it myself in about an hour, including unpacking all the parts and organizing all the bolts, screws and fasteners. Two complete booklets with assembly instructions were included, one in Spanish and one in English. The instructions were clear and the accompanying illustrations were very helpful. I chose not to add casters as I wanted it to function as a stationary piece of furniture (as another reviewer mentioned) and I'm very happy with its looks. Since the unit has some weight, especially with the solid wood top, it stays in place. The magnet that keeps the doors closed doesn't seem very strong, but so far the doors open and close with no problems. I wish the drawer slides in and out a little more smoothly, but it works well enough for what I use it for. As for the three giant warning stickers on the butcher block: I took the advice of some other reviewers and applied a little Dawn dishwashing liquid to a warm rag and the adhesive came off immediately. No fiddling with acetone, alcohol, sanding or other labor intensive products - just use Dawn! I plan on going through the petroleum meat block and I might go over the screws, bolts and cams again to try and fix things up a bit, but that's just my nitpicking. In fact, every little thing I notice is unlikely to be noticed by anyone else. I particularly like that this piece is made of solid wood. You can feel the weight as you take each piece out of the box! Definitely recommend this part, especially for the price.
