I've tried very hard to give this laptop a chance - but I have to

HP give it back. Arrogant engineering is the buzzword of the day. First, the laptop does not support 32GB SODIMM RAM, although the AMD 5500u processor can support it. So you are limited to 32 GB. So I can live with that, even if it sucks. What I can't deal with is the BIOS refusing to boot from an NVME drive that doesn't work with SMART simply because it's over 100% loaded. Samsung drives are now known to work perfectly for more than 500% of their usage. So I went into the BIOS to find out where to disable SMART - there are no options in the BIOS to disable it. This is an arrogant design and I consider this a design flaw that basically prevents me from using the laptop as advertised. There are very few settings in the BIOS so you can't do anything other than the most basic things like boot order detection etc. Also, the WIFI that comes with this laptop does NOT support Linux. You need to install Linux, find the drivers via the Github repository, build the drivers, and then use MODPROBE to install them in the kernel. It makes things worse, but I was willing to put up with it because it only gave me a headache once. No, HP screwed it up by forcing a stupid SMART option on its users without giving the end user a simple switch in the BIOS to ignore the SMART options. I'm an advanced user, I know the warnings so don't force your users to do such things. This laptop is back within a week.
