I had a problem with AC hum in my powered subwoofer, even when it was a few feet from the receiver (subwoofer output). With the subwoofer on, there is no hum only when the receiver (source) is off (two different receivers, same problem). I recently placed the subwoofer under the stairs (wife hated looking at it so out of place, out of wife's head) and intentionally ran about 20ft of coax to try to reduce/eliminate the hum. No luck (the cable has to run next to some power cables, as well as romex in the walls and underground). I've tried changing polarity, using filters etc and no change. I've thought about replacing the coax cable with an even more heavily shielded cable, but going underground to replace it is a big project and it will still get past the AC cables/wires. I figured that maybe the subwoofer was to blame, and since I couldn't find another way to get rid of the hum, I was almost ready to go to the store to buy a replacement subwoofer. But since wireless speakers exist, I checked to see if there was a kit/adapter. This one proved to be the best for my application so I got it and hooked it up last night. PERFECT! No AC hum; dead silence; I don't know if it's on until a low bass note is sent there. The signal goes through the cupboard door, through/past the sofa and through the double sheet metal wall. The direct distance is 18-20 feet (During the test, the signal also went through a cabinet full of CDs). This saved me the expense and hassle of replacing my coax cable (which probably wouldn't solve the problem) and buying a new subwoofer (which probably wouldn't solve my problem either). If anything changes I will update. But I'm very satisfied after years of dealing with it (only use the subwoofer when listening to loud music/movies to drown out the AC hum). :)
