I went about a year and a half with my 1030 without a cover until one day while pulling the bike out of the car the Garmin accidentally slid to the ground. Only a few meters but it crashed. I ordered the Motong while Garmin was fixing the glass and have been using the cover on the road and in the woods for a few months now. Along with a protective film, he withstood several blows in the forest and threw him off his mount a couple of times, but without damage. The only minor downside is that for my road bike the case adds weight but the 1030 is too expensive to replace again.
