Yes, heavy. But for tall women with broad shoulders, the adjustable fit is just great. I gain an extra pound or more to feel comfortable - no other pack I've tried has felt as good. The ability to open the back as if it were luggage is incredibly useful when loading, making it easy to see where everything is so you can quickly find it later. The side pockets are a little tricky, I usually only leave them closed to the top strap otherwise they are difficult to reach and open and even then difficult to get in without taking the pack off.
