Review on Black BAOFENG UV-5R Dual Band Two-Way Radio by Daniel Oliver

This little radio is amazing! I don't have the money to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars in an expensive radio, so I didn't know what to expect from a cheap radio like this. I was amazed at how great this radio is! I have had and have been using mine for a few months now and it works great. What I did: Bought a Power Expert 7.5" 2m/70cm antenna for them, which may have helped with performance; I also bought a CHIRP cable for radio programming as you can't call up channels from the radio itself What I use the radio for: I purchased an FCC GMRS license so I can legally speak on the GMRS frequencies and also use this radio with my family on the FRS frequencies I have also programmed repeaters into the radio, so i can talk on 2m when i get my amateur license and also on GMRS so far my best contact on the GMRS has been a measured 36 miles which included a descent into a small valley where we were camping this radio connects to my camelbak so I can use it while cycling or hiking I would get an extended mic for this as the antenna smacks me in the face when driving (but looks very tactful so worth it). All in all this radio is a fantastic toy, I mean an instrument! It is configurable so you can use larger antennas or mount it in the vehicle and attach it to the roof antenna. it's programmable so you can find and key in the local frequencies that interest you; and it has a long range, so you can talk to friends and family over a wide area (much bigger and better if you use repeaters). I plan to buy more!
