Review on Kinsa Smart Thermometer Fever Temperature by Tatiane White

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Dangerously inaccurate

BUYER ATTENTION! If I could give zero stars I would. We bought this thermometer for our newborn who is less than 2 months old. For newborns under 3 months, fever 100.4 is an emergency. This thermometer showed that our newborn had a fever on 3 separate occasions, one of which was as high as 100.9. This forced us to go to the emergency room where blood was drawn (which is very difficult for a child under two months old). They had to try twice to draw her blood because her veins are so small. They also took urine samples to rule out a UTI and discussed a possible puncture to find out if she had meningitis! At this point we wondered if the thermometer was the problem and bought a rectal thermometer from CVS. The Kinsa thermometer showed consistently high readings compared to the CVS thermometer, reaching 2 degrees. According to the CVS thermometer, our child has never had a fever! This was also confirmed at the hospital when her temperature was checked again. This thermometer is very inaccurate and should be withdrawn from sale. Had we not thought to verify its accuracy, we might have subjected our newborn to more invasive procedures (spinal tap) that were not necessary. If you love your family, don't buy this thermometer. Great concept but dangerous product.
