As a newbie I just wanted something cheap and simple. This is probably one of the cheapest side cutters and versatile. At first I had concerns about compatibility but I paired this with a Brother XM2701 sewing machine. Initially I had problems, but after a series of adjustments everything went smoothly. I'm doing a wide zig zag stitch with this side cutter at slow feed speed and it seems to work fine. First I tried using incompatible stitches and she hit the foot which broke the needle. I would suggest running your settings through the stitch cycle by turning the right hand knob to see if there is any interference between the needle and foot to prevent the needles from breaking.
