DZNuts vs. Gooch Guard - Different Approaches, A Matter of Preference

I bought this and DZNuts Cream at the same time. I do not generally have a problem with irritation, but it has happened. At the time I tried these I did not have a rash or irritation, so I can't comment on how well either of these are at soothing an existing problem. These are two products different for a number of reasons. DZNuts' instructions advise to put the cream directly on the skin, noting it can also be added to the chamois. Gooch Guard, on the other hand, advises to put it on the chamois, but notes that is can also be applied to the skin. This difference may be due more to the consistency of the products, more than anything else. The Gooch Guard is thicker and more solid than DZNuts, sort of a soft paste. DZNuts on the other hand, is more liquidy, more cream-like. It is, therefore, easier to apply Gooch Guard to the chamois and DZNuts to the skin. DZNuts has a stronger fragrance that strangely waivers between peculiar and pleasant. While wearing, I catch intermittent whiffs of it and wonder if others can, too. Gooch Guard has a much milder fragrance which I did not notice once dressed. In use, both products did seem to provide some protection as my skin felt smoother and cooler than otherwise. I cannot attest to either one's ability to prevent irritation, as I stated previously. Both washed off both my body and the chamois easily. The DZNuts did sting slightly upon application. It was a mild sting which one could either find refreshing or uncomfortable. Like its fragrance, the feel waivered between the two. To summarize: Both products seem to provide some mild comfort and both have their pluses and minuses. I could see myself using either one. While the stronger fragrance and "bite" of DZNuts has me leaning toward Gooch Guard, I prefer the smoother, creamier feel of DZNuts and find it easier and less messy to apply.

Pros
  • Long-lasting protection for intense workouts and extended rides
Cons
  • May be difficult to clean out of athletic clothing, leading to odor
