Review on Necoichi Cat Scratcher Bowl with Cozy Design by Walter Hunter

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The cat loves it, just not as high quality as it sounds.

I bought this when I was preparing to foster a cat. At the same time, I bought a plush bed at another retail store. Kitty immediately started laying in that bed and was completely disinterested in the other bed, hence the bowl gets high marks for that. I've noticed that she's finally started scratching when she lays down, but I'm not sure yet if that can really replace a scratching post. The cardboard interior seems to be holding up well so far and is well made. On the other hand, for the premium I paid for this product, I found that the outer rim was a layer of real wood. Instead, it's a thin layer of paper - it feels like wrapping paper. I don't have high hopes that it will last long, especially if the cat gets a few scratches outside the rim. In general I feel pretty good about the purchase but I may have made a small mistake in the construction of the product. Update: 04/11/18. Unfortunately my cat stopped using the bowl as a bed or scratching surface a few months ago. I'm not sure what caused the change. I'll try a cleansing session and see if that gets her interested again. Also, if you ever take out the bulk of the "bowl" to clean, make sure you're not squeezing or separating them too much. It didn't take long for me to realize that this was made from a very tight spiral of cardboard and was a nightmare to put together properly!
