I surprised a lot of kids with this for Halloween. Some reviews mention that the sensor doesn't work well for them. I think it comes from a misunderstanding of how the sensor works. Basically there are two holes on the rim of the front of the bowl. Sensors in these holes simply detect light. If the perceived amount of light changes, the arm extends. Doesn't work in the dark. For best performance, the light should be aimed at it from above. It doesn't have to be a bright light, but there should be some light so the sensors can see the shadow created when the hand reaches for the candy. Once I figured it out, it worked great.
