WILL NOT support 500lbs, my 120lbs body was too much for it.
For my extra paper supplies and toiletries, this shelf fits perfectly in this super narrow closet in my bathroom. But it claims it can hold 500 pounds. I have a 55 gallon tank and there's no way this shelf can't even hold the gravel that's in the tank let alone 500 pounds of anything. If I press too hard with my hands, these shelves would succumb to the design. So for my simple task this works very well. Just don't expect it to hold a lot of weight, because it definitely won't.
