The first impression is that the case itself is very compact and light. The rounded edges fit perfectly in the hand. The case is flat enough to even fit in the small watch pocket of my jeans. I like the matte white-beige finish as it doesn't leave smudges or fingerprints. The top stays stiff and closes with a nice click. There is a USB-C port on the side and a small thin status LED on the front. I think it's a simple, elegant design. The earbuds fit perfectly into the case and are securely fixed with a magnet so that they don't slip out. Removal is easy as the body of the bud is also matte, making it easier to grab. The headphone's round shape is simple, with a small "stem" that sits at the bottom of the ear canal (between the anti-tragus and tragus) with the microphone facing outward and towards the mouth. The buds fit well in my small ears and stick out a bit. Although there is some rubbing and pressure around the edges, I never felt any pain. Cleer included several sizes of gel tips and I stuck with the standard tips as they created the best seal for me. Once in place, they never fell off while running or even spinning the wheels. Like most other headphones, they're IPX4 rated, so light rain and sweat won't be a problem. The Roam NC headphones were easy to pair, but I couldn't figure out if they support Bluetooth 5.0 or higher (hopefully), but in my experience I've never had connection drops while walking around my medium-sized apartment. They also support SBC and aptX Adaptive and I haven't noticed any lag or stuttering when watching videos or gaming. Roam NC features responsive touch controls, but the control scheme wasn't easy to master. However, I'm happy to report that everything from track controls, ANC, ambient mode, calls and (yes!) volume can be controlled from the headphones themselves. The battery life is slightly above average. Cleer claims 5 hours of battery life and I was able to get close to that with volume at 75% and ANC on. A case that sadly doesn't support Qi wireless charging but is expected at this price point and adds another 10 hours which is a little underwhelming. However, Roam NC supports fast charging: 5 minutes in the case provides an additional 1 hour of playback. The 5.8mm drivers offer a nice sound quality that I wasn't expecting. Again, you need to find the right gel tips for the best seal. Out of the box I found the bass to be quite punchy and well defined. There's not much sub-bass, but it doesn't distort or distort at higher volumes. The mids are well represented as I could hear vocals, percussion instruments and choruses quite well. The highs are a bit high, which provides clarity, but also a little noise. Roam NC goes really well with any genre, video or game. For the price, the noise-cancellation (ANC) is pretty decent. While I could still hear the traffic and crowds at the supermarket, these headphones canceled out the noise just enough for me to enjoy what I was hearing. Ambient mode works reasonably well, although sounds were a bit unnatural and there was a slight but annoying hiss. Luckily, I only turn this mode on when needed, and there was no noticeable hiss during playback. The connection quality is good. Although I was told it was obvious I was using Bluetooth and the audio was a little tinny, I was heard clearly and there were no hiccups. The headphones picked up a bit of airborne noise, and this was more noticeable when Ambient Sound Mode was enabled. In case you don't like the default sound signature, Cleer now offers the Cleer+ app, which features an intuitive equalizer, ambient/ANC levels, battery level check, rename your headphones, and customize your voice assistant. I'd say I wanted a bit more when it came to touchpad customization, but in reality the app is a great companion that adds value to the headphones. In the end I am very impressed with the Cleer Roam NC headphones. Packed with features, offering very good sound quality, comfort, decent ANC/Ambient mode, and app customization, it's hard to consider them a "budget" item. I highly recommend using them as a daily driver or as a backup set.
