Review on La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying 🧼 Foaming Gel Cleanser: Perfect for Oily Skin! by Agata Kleczaj ᠌

Mediocre product, probably won't use.

In my turbulent youth, I used foamy gels and face washes to dry out my oily, troubled skin. I used to be opposed to cleansers that contained SLS, but after my skin problem suddenly escalated (especially on my forehead), I went to a physician who recommended this gel. Therefore, the gel is see-through and liquid; I find its pleasant, medicinal aroma comforting. The packaging, a tube with a cap, is cumbersome because the gel spills due to its liquid composition, and there is an issue with the dosage (I tend to overuse the product), but for a pleasant wash, a couple of peas will suffice. Little foaming occurs, but its effective cleansing abilities remain unaffected. Indeed, there are only two things I want to know about cleansers: how effective they are and how much they dry. No treatment is effective beyond this because it only stays on the skin for a limited period of time. This gel does a fantastic job of removing all traces of makeup (in the off chance that your makeup remover failed) and sebum from your face at the end of the day, as well as any traces of night cream that may have been left behind. No unusual sanitizing occurred, as far as I could tell; the black spots were unaffected. But, while it does not provide a "to a squeak" clean, and there is initially no sensation of dryness, the skin does tighten after use. When I didn't use a moisturizer (which happened a few times while I was sleeping), I saw peeling on my forehead and the sides of my nose, therefore the gel failed the dehydration test (but, given the composition, I had no illusions about this). Following three weeks of twice-daily use, my skin is so severely dehydrated that not even a full complement of hyaluronic acid serums and moisturizers can help. Maybe I'll stop using this gel and go back to milder alternatives that don't contain soap.

Pros
  • Smell, and the act of cleaning.
Cons
  • Skin dryness from packing.
