I would not use them as a chair or seat.

I've just finished building these tables and I think they will work for what we wanted them for - a CPAP cabinet, but there will also be room for a phone and remote control on the second shelf . It took a minute or two to figure out the assembly without written instructions, but we managed. Don't over tighten the screws or you'll split the wood on the shelf like we did, but that's not enough to worry about.
