Good working picture but freeze problem

I got this Toshiba unit on 12/18. bought and on 20.12. connected. From the first movie loaded into the device, I started experiencing intermittent screen freezes during playback. I tried about ten different retail DVDs and every one of them froze at least once. Toshiba Technical Support accepted my information and asked me to "reset" the device by unplugging it from the power outlet for a few minutes and then plugging it back in. After that, playback still freezes intermittently. Toshiba tech support says they can prepare a replacement for me, but that would require the DVD player not being available until I ship it (they won't pre-replace it), so that's out of the question. I will return it to the store where I bought it and exchange it locally first. On a positive note, the set I have is October 2006, I didn't have to hook up a component first to get HDMI working. I just connected HDMI and it worked. Pros: good picture quality, lots of features (upconversion and Divx) at a great price. Nice looking device. Cons: Divx playback works on most things I've thrown at it, but not as well as my cheap $49 RCA player, which can play pretty much anything. Freezing of images during DVD playback is not acceptable under any circumstances. No feature that the disc will play from the same point you last stopped playing. I would advise staying away from this player at this point. Too many playback problems.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
