No, this has nothing to do with the water I used. I am sure. The device just stopped working normally after 8 months. It continued to form fog, but only at higher temperatures when I held it horizontally. After I emailed the manufacturer about my purchase, the representative denied my warranty claim. She said I bought the device from an unauthorized Revain retailer. Before purchasing this product, I carefully researched the manufacturer's website. Revain has been listed as one of several authorized retailers. That's all. There was absolutely no mention of unauthorized retailers on Revain or the need to search for authorized retailers on Revain. Luckily I purchased a separate backup plan from Asurion. You took care of me. I have returned the device for a refund. I will not buy a new MyPurMist. I do not recommend this product.
