Great Product - My Analysis and What I Did

Bought this product for permanent installation on the face of a brick wall. Equalizer for active speakers. Worked great and the equalizer gave me the ability to tweak the sound I was looking for. What surprised me is that although the speakers are wired and may have signal input, you can connect via Bluetooth on your mobile device and override the wired connection. That can be great, but if you remember to turn off bluetooth in settings and use "forget this device" every time you're in range your bluetooth device will connect and instead of the incoming one accept the signal. from a wired connection. Offers flexibility, but you just have to keep that aspect in mind. For this permanent setup, which is about 10 feet away, I also added a switched outlet in addition to the powered speaker. I used a two post box and countersunk flush with the outside brick wall. On one side was a switched outlet and on the other my RCA audio jacks. It worked great. Many other reviews pointed to problems with the active speaker, which was damaged by water ingress into the connector ports. My solution - I connected all the planned wires and masked the location of the recessed connection. I set the volume to around 90% which would help prevent clipping and clipping. I then used a fingertip (you could use the fingertip of a latex glove) to put the volume knob on to seal it. I then applied many coats of white PlastiDip to ensure a good seal. It took a little while due to the 30 minute curing time between coats. It sealed everything well. I then used some foaming foam to fill the rest of the hole. This serves 2 purposes. It prevents water from pooling in the cutouts when the speakers are pointing down and keeps the connection points stable so as not to compromise the seal. I initially chose PlastiDip because it's technically peelable and if I ever need to go back to the grout, the expandable foam is easier to remove. Using latex on the volume knob allows me to come back to information later if needed and keeps the PlastiDip from wandering under the knob and not turning. I used expanding foam which is designed for small cracks so it doesn't expand as much. Immediately after filling the cavity, I smoothed the surface with a damp paper towel, wiping off excess so that the finished foam sealer was barely covering the surface. It worked great! I left it on for a day before turning it on just to make sure any solvents that hadn't dried out of the PlastiDip or foam couldn't get under the interconnect board. The speaker wire to the passive speaker was too short as everyone else said. Knowing this in advance, I was already planning to extend it another 10 feet. For the secondary (passive) speaker, I placed a rubber shroud over the terminals and then used HVAC foil tape to seal the shroud area. In my circumstances I am outputting sound from my TV (mainly for music channels) but my TV out is at a constant volume. As a volume control, I use a headphone amplifier connected between an equalizer and a powered speaker. From televisions to equalizers, headphone amplifiers to active speakers. The volume outside is a lot louder than I initially expected, it was actually too loud so I had to use a headphone amp to reduce the input. The EQ had a gain control but not low enough. Overall excellent audio reproduction. If you're only using a Bluetooth connection with a mobile device, the volume will be much lower, and with full amplification on your mobile device, you'll likely hear some audio clipping (distortion). I used an additional app on my phone to set up and take control of my own equalizer. Works perfectly. (I've used the Behringer AMP800 and Behringer MINIFBQ 800) In general, I was initially apprehensive after reading the various reviews, but when I took a step back and analyzed what was said, the bulk of the questions revolved around the sealing of the junction area. and possibly below the expected volume when using a mobile device. There weren't any real complaints about the sound quality, which I haven't addressed yet. Even without an equalizer, the sound quality for external speakers was good. In the end I have to give 5 stars because it exceeded my expectations. Now about durability - let's see.
