We received the carafe about two years ago, but it wasn't until well after we'd used it that we discovered a tiny air bubble trapped in the glass in the Nearby was the bottom (the part where the wine contents cover it). That might be a weak point, but it still holds up very well in everyday use. The carafe is made of relatively thin glass, but is still very durable and has a very attractive shape. Some red wines can soil the inside of a glass decanter, which is what those fancy flexible brushes are sold for, at the risk of breaking the neck of the decanter. We have tried recommended alternatives such as denture cleaning tables but find them highly ineffective and are concerned about odor and aftertaste. Please do what many experienced sommeliers do; Use a quantity of 4-5 finely crushed egg shells in a small amount of warm water and stir gently. You will see the tension before your eyes disappear and the carafe become crystal clear again. Of course, the whole process should take about five minutes or less, depending on the stain.
