Fun device, but don't expect too much

This is a fun device to fool around with. After several hours of trying to get it to work, thinking my software wasn't set up properly, I found that the USB cable that came with it was defective. I changed the cable and was in business. (Edit: I received two of these devices, both with faulty USB cables. If you are having trouble recognizing the device from your computer, try a known good USB cable). There is absolutely no documentation for this device. Luckily it wasn't my first SDR so I already had the software installed. I prefer CubicSDR as it is very visual and intuitive. It also works with SDR# (SDR Sharp) and HDSDR, which are available online for free. You must use Zadig to download and install the correct drivers on your computer, this is very important. As for the function of the device itself, it works, but it has very low sensitivity. You only hear strong signals like from nearby airports, NOAA weather, ham radio, AM and FM radio stations, etc. Don't expect to hear a lot of conversations as most wireless communications are now digital, which is not the case with these Devices easily decrypted and often encrypted. On the HF bands, the sensitivity is so low that you can hardly hear anything, especially when using the supplied antenna. The antenna is good for strong VHF and UHF signals but completely useless for the HF bands. 2 meter calls go well with him. I use a long wire antenna to be able to receive everything on SW. Another important note: When listening to low frequencies below 25 MHz, make sure you put the antenna in the correct connection and set the software to "Direct Sampling, Q", otherwise you will not hear anything. In summary, this is a fun device, you'll learn a lot about radio frequencies and the RF spectrum, and get a lot of entertainment for the price, but don't expect too much from this tiny device and antenna.
