I bought these for snowshoeing. You never know when you might want to ditch your tough pack, so it's nice to know your boots won't get snowed in. I once went snowshoeing without gaiters and it wasn't much fun. They kept all the junk and held up well. If there's one thing that worries me, it's how long the bottom strap lasts. However, after driving them about fifteen miles I haven't noticed any change in their condition - they still look great. Sizing wise I bought a medium pair and found they fit well. I wear 9 1/2 shoes but as others have said that doesn't help you much when it comes to sizing. Others will tell you how tall they are and how much they weigh (5ft 9in 150lbs), but what this item really needs for the size chart is a calf measurement. My calf measures 15 inches where the leggings close at the top. If my calf was larger, there would be room to adjust the gaiters to fit maybe another inch at most, since the velcro along the entire length of the back of the gaiter is only that wide. However, if I was a little smaller, that size wouldn't work. Keep this in mind if you are unsure of which size to choose. If you're a small guy like me, a medium size might work for you.
