I don't know why black was so awful, I spent so much money making a shirt. Other brands I've tried had a lighter color on the back so you can see your cuts better, but this one didn't. As a new Silouhette user, I try many brands to find what suits my needs. I'm not sure the frustration justifies the cost savings. Maybe the other buns are better, but buy small ones and try it yourself. **Updated**. After seeing this review the company offered to send a replacement so I could try again. They get another star for customer service. HOWEVER, it was still difficult to sort out because it left a kind of "shadow" which made it difficult to tell the difference between the cut lines and the shadow. I have attached a photo for reference. The white substitute was better. In the time between my first purchase and the exchange I learned a few tips about my cutter, which was also helpful.
