If you just want to capture HD video and play it back on an HD TV, this camera will do. However, if you want to download the recorded video to your computer for editing, adding music, transitions, titles and creating a finished product, forget it. The included Pixela editing program is so weak that you can't add standard MP3 music files or import videos recorded by other cameras. There is only one audio and video track. The transitions don't work well, and overall it's a disaster. I tried two other more professional editing programs (Pinnacle 14 Ultimate and Adobe Premiere Elements 8). Both programs accept Canon's AVCHD files perfectly and editing runs smoothly. But the camera does not accept the finished edited project even if it is saved as an AVCHD file. I spoke to two technical representatives from Canon. Both confirmed that the camera does not recognize AVCHD files created in an editing program other than Pixela. So if you don't have a Blu-ray burner, you'll need to convert your HD project to standard definition in order to burn it onto a standard DVD, defeating the purpose of buying an HD camera. I'm returning the camera. too frustrating.
