I used a different external hard drive with my SA 8300HD but this sometimes caused the image to freeze so I looked for a hard drive that worked better. I bought this Fantom drive because it specifically says it is compatible with the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD. It connected perfectly, but I immediately saw a freezing problem, but much worse than any previous drive. I even gave it a few weeks to "settle in" but it didn't get any better. Even if you don't record anything, just save the "Live Rewind" function to disk, the image freezes and stutters. It was impossible to record one HD program, and even more so two at a time, it was impossible to watch the recordings. I ended up buying an SSD and when I plugged it in everything was perfect, I was even able to record two HD shows at the same time with no problem.
