I bought this for an old computer that only had a working USB 3 output. It was a gift from a friend who told me about a weird port that works to the point of smell. However, I couldn't connect a keyboard and mouse, let alone six external hard drives and other accessories with USB ports. Because these drives can overload a USB port, I need a powered hub system. So this device works well for the functions I rely on. There are switches to turn drives on and off (WARNING: On Win 10, be sure to unplug the external drive via software first before turning off the hub switch!). It's a heavy metal hub, so it's less likely to move unexpectedly when plugged in or unplugged. It's worth every penny I paid for it.
