. I tried putting it in the sun for a few days but the smell stayed. Tried to sprinkle with soda does not help. Finally I soaked it in a solution of cold water with detergent. After rinsing thoroughly, some of the smell seemed to dissipate, so I put fabric softener in each section hoping they would remove/mask the remaining smell. Haven't used the spacer yet but I'm hoping it will come in handy once the smell goes away as it looks really well done.
