Well, I confess I didn't notice the word "lock" when I bought them, so it took me a few minutes to notice the small mechanism that has to move for it to lock works properly. This happened about 2 days later when my husband tried to no avail. I've bought similar S-Clips several times from the same company and this locking mechanism seems to make them much more durable and less likely to get lost (with whatever's attached to them) when they inevitably bend a bit. Maybe they won't bend for a while because of this little addition because the delicate part of the clamp is less vulnerable. In any case, they seem to be 10x better than the last ones I bought (I thought they were when I bought them). In any case, I'm glad I happened upon this version and I hope it completely replaces the other one. Just a note: if you can't open it easily (or at all), there's a tiny piece of black plastic that looks like a grain of rice. in the middle of Part S; Just turn it like a knob and it goes from open to closed and vice versa. This is the part my husband couldn't figure out (not knowing it was different from the previous ones we bought) and it took me a few minutes to figure out there was an extra piece.
