I was waiting for them because of the hype. I've tried them on my V20, with and without the amp. The amp really helps. I'll admit they might need a break-in, but here are the initial conclusions. My main phones at the moment are a pair of $20 Koss KPH301s with Yaxi pads and an upgraded internal damping pad. I also use a Mayflower Cmoy with 1X gain, an LG V20 and an optional Audioquest cable. They are fairly well balanced throughout. Some would call it a V signature. I'd say it's more of a U with a mid/low bass peak and an upper octave boost. the mids are slightly suppressed. The imbalance isn't that big, but the ceiling is a bit hard. It works by itself once it starts working. The mids have a bit more resolution than the cheap Koss. However, Koss has the best tonal balance and that's what counts. This slight lack of mids robs pianos and guitars of body parts and weight. However, it gets better when they come into play. Both have slightly increased bass levels. Koss is better than Stock because of the better pads and amp. C12 is very respectable in the lower regions, but Koss is crowding them out. The subwoofer is better presented and there is more detail below. When the frequency is reduced, the braids maintain speed and accuracy. C12 goes a little limp. Koss win in the picture, but neither of them are perfect. Both have a wide soundstage, but Koss has more depth. The C12 are more focused, but that may be due to the slightly added highs. Koss are 30 ohms and the amp helps a lot. C12 is slightly lower but still wins. Dynamics are better, bass is bigger and faster, and the soundstage is more focused. YMMV In the end, for the price, the C12 is a steal. Yes, they lose out to a cheaper pair of phones, but Koss really needs that amp to keep up. They are comfortable enough as I can try memory foam. This allows bass to be boosted and high frequencies to be dampened. I received an updated Linsoul cable and it's beautiful. Everything a little tighter. The top is not that hard. Bass is better. It would be nice if they were a little less bright. I also admit that they fit me better than any other IEM/headphones I've tried. After a longer run-in, the high frequencies become less harsh and the deeper basses improve. They sound more balanced. Braids are more neutral but have a slight edge in resolution in the upper areas. Braids are better below. The stock tips fit well and offer hearing protection level insulation. C12 are very musical and offer good isolation. A few drivers could have been better matched sonically, but then again, the overall package is quite affordable.
