Compact but insecure

2 star docking station for safety reasons. I was looking for something that looked like a learning tower that wasn't as big and bulky as the Montessori tower since we have a small kitchen. After a long search I decided on this one. I foresaw some security issues with the design, but in practice I realized that this is really unsafe. The board, perpendicular to the side panels, sits at the perfect inseam height for our 20 month old. So what is he doing? He quickly steps on it as if it were a third step, allowing him to climb onto the kitchen counter or access the stovetop. Also, our toddler fell off the stairs a couple of times because it's not closed on all four sides like a training tower. Adding to the safety concerns is that we have wooden floors in the kitchen which can definitely slip a bit too easily for my liking. As other reviewers have pointed out, black protectors are like coarse sandpaper and cannot be kept clean. So unless you intend to keep a close eye on your exuberant toddler while using it, I wouldn't recommend it. The whole point of purchasing this item was to give me more mobility around the kitchen while also keeping my little one occupied and (relatively) safe. I'll keep it because I can move it around the house to the sink or to a (closed) window fairly easily, but it doesn't justify the price of the sticker.
