Good Protection

After 15 years of good service and a lightning strike my preamp and (then) 2 year old PSU burned out (and then Monster took over to fix it and sent me a new PSU), my surge protector/Monster Powerbar AC had to be replaced. Having moved from higher-end entry-level hardware to much higher-end hardware, I felt an increase in protection was warranted as well. After much research, I finally settled on the Panamax M5400 based on expert and consumer feedback as well as the company's specs. Shy of a full UPS system, this seemed like one of the best options. I was a little worried about the device being noisy after reading some customer reviews, but my device is quiet. The displayed voltages, which are not accurate, were also mentioned several times in the reviews, but after measuring the voltage (input and output) myself, it turned out that my device was top. Having just bought a Samsung 4k Q series TV I can't vouch for any picture improvement as I found it to be quite amazing when connected to the monster. The subwoofer seems to have a little more power than it used to, although that might just be my imagination. No protection is perfect, and with a large enough surge, it could theoretically handle the devices connected. That's why the $$ money back guarantee was important to me, and Panamax offers one of the best guarantees I've seen. The fact that some people have suffered losses from the spike was less important to me than the company behind their product and their warranty. Of course, I haven't looked into them in that regard, but I've seen where they're very good at it. I just hope that if/if I ever need them for that matter they will be as easy to handle as a monster. My Marantz gear is pretty much immaculate.
