I have a child with allergies and eczema. His skin is easily irritated and each winter he develops painful, inflamed skin around his nose and above his upper lip. Since I'm better at using fabric than paper/plastic disposables for my own sensitive skin, I decided to try tissues for him this year. x8", white (set of 3). I have found it safer for a busy little boy to have at least a handful of tissues if I want him to get used to reaching for them. I personally find flannel tissues to be softer and more comfortable more inviting than plain "satin". My son, on the other hand, said right away that he wanted to wear plain woven ones. He also wants to wear a suit and put it in his breast pocket, but he's a bit of a pocket square and a functional one. I explained that Handkerchief are likely to be separate items, especially for a little boy who wants to play in the snow/mud/sand but is initially attracted to smooth handkerchiefs and personal preference of which handkerchief to put on his nose! Blowing your nose, a handkerchief works the same good as a napkin. This point is fairly well supported by history that: 1) Many people now , and almost all people up to this l Last generation of used, laundered and reused cloth diapers, even before the advent of modern water heaters and automatic washing machines. If they can be hygienically cleaned, a handkerchief is child's play! 2) The argument that it's disgusting to carry a used tissue in your pocket completely ignores the fact that while a used tissue can (and should) be thrown in the trash immediately, it FREQUENTLY needs to be pocketed when there is no suitable place to throw away . As a mom, I get used baby wipes in my hands/cars/bags, and not just mine. (Damn!) My kids leave tissues in their pockets and all my underwear is covered in white fluff. Handkerchiefs are no less disgusting than these and will solve the laundry problem. Specifically, I ordered two small washable pouches (Bumkins, Traffic & Gray Chevron Reusable Snack Bag, 2 pack) to use as tissue holders in little boys' pockets. In hindsight, I realized that I really needed a two-piece (but tiny!) pouch with a clean side and a dirty side for everyday use, but that's what I'll probably use while my kids will get confused about stashing anyway. 3) Knowing how to wash your hands frequently, especially before eating, will alleviate a lot of the bag problem anyway. I don't expect my kids to avoid touching soil/trees/bugs because without the experience they won't learn and grow nearly as well so hand washing is a must. By focusing on that, I can save the tree and use the handkerchief. This will probably be the least disgusting thing in my son's bag on laundry day.
