Review on 🎧 Scosche IDR657MW slideLINE Remote Earphones by Amanda Engelhardt

Disappointing heights

2 packs of Scosche IDR657mw Found at a reduced price at a local warehouse. In fact, I've been happy with the Etymotic ER4p for years, but they're clunky, with an annoyingly long and inflexible cable with no built-in controls. Recently I bought Ultimate Ears ue350vm, very nice with Comply foam tips, light, with built-in regulators, but the cable is short and clearly perceptible bass and slightly lowered treble. So I figured what the heck - try Scosche (whose cable is almost perfect at 6 inches longer). There are also what I consider to be the best built-in controls for volume, pause, answer call, etc. (which, by the way, work great with the Android Samsung Galaxy S3 and presumably the iPhone - for those who made the mistake of buying an Apple). There's also a chin strap adjuster or behind the ears (very handy) as well as extra tips, a Y-cable and ear hooks. In terms of performance, the Scosche didn't lack bass either (with well-fitting foam tips). However, this did not compensate for the high quality of the sound. I thought the large 11mm drivers could deliver good sound, but to my ears they were fuzzy, scratchy and had a "hot spot" around 6000Hz that sounds like someone is yelling at you in a high-pitched voice . Was too coarse even for the EQ to compensate. I have to say that when comparing listening to UE there was no comparison. But if you're not a picky listener, just like bass, or use headphones primarily for speech, the Scosche, with its lavish accessories and affordable price tag, might be for you. Otherwise, the two brands that please my ears are Etymotic and UE - in this case (IMHO) their higher cost is worth it.
